HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 6 (ACN) Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom are the main markets of the famous Cuban rum Havana Club, which shows its resilience in the context of the international economic crisis.
Sergio Valdés, director of Havana Club International, told Cuban News Agency that in the Americas Canada, Mexico and Argentina are other important markets in the area and the first steps are currently being taken to introduce the products in Asia and Africa.
At the end of its fiscal year (June), sales grew by 10 percent, with 4.6 million nine-liter cases, a record in the history of the brand, and the expectation is to reach six million cases in 2028.
Despite being among the three best rums in the world, the United States (U.S.) market, which represents 40 percent of global consumption, cannot access Havana Club because of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by its government on Cuba.
Valdés regretted that the citizens of that northern nation cannot taste the emblematic lines of the corporation, which is the main sponsor of the LXIX World Cocktail Championship, which is being held in Varadero until November 8.
For the 69th edition of the contest, Cuban rum was chosen as the base for the elaborations and the mandatory products are the multi-awarded Añejo 3 Años, Añejo 7 Años and Selección de Maestros, from the Havana Club brand.
