Fernando Gonzalez, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), described the 19th European Continental Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba as a success, due to its broad attendance and the depth of the discussions.
Gonazalez, during the closing remarks at the forum, held over the weekend at the headquarters of the French Communist Party (PCF), highlighted the participation of some 300 delegates from nearly 30 countries, noting that attendance was limited by the capacity of the venue.
The hero of the Republic of Cuba expressed gratitude for the organization of the event and for the warm reception from the PCF. He emphasized the proposals made at the meeting, which called for the lifting of the U.S. blockade and the removal of Cuba from Washington’s unilateral list of countries sponsoring terrorism.
“I thank each one of you. I am sure that you will take what was discussed and agreed upon back to your associations,” he stated.
Regarding the action plan outlined in the final declaration of the solidarity forum, Gonzalez expressed confidence that it would strengthen support for Cuba and its Revolution in Europe and around the world.
“We have a collective responsibility to implement these agreements,” said the ICAP president, who underscored the importance of pairing political solidarity with Cuba with economic assistance, given the consequences of the U.S. blockade.
