At the event, chaired by Ambassador Oscar León, different generations of Cuban emigrants participated to reaffirm their love for the homeland and their desire to strengthen the unity of the Cuban community in Angola.

León noted that the meeting opens a stage of work aimed at more closeness and joint work, always under the principles of respect for Cuba’s sovereignty and independence.

Consul David Fundora commented on the results of the 4th Nation and Emigration Conference, held in Havana in November 2023, as well as the main concerns discussed at the meeting.

Among them, he mentioned the difficulties with the legalization abroad of documents issued in Cuba, the delay in certain procedures, and the possibility of emigrants’ participation in the creation of micro, small and medium-sized businesses in Cuba.

Another issue addressed were the measures related to the entry in the country of Cubans who abandoned state missions, an aspect on which the residents in Angola indicated that each case must be reviewed.

They mentioned ,among the elements that most mark their life in this country, the irregularity that exists in the departure of direct Luanda-Havana flights, and the problems to legalize their residence.

The president of the Association of the Community of Cuban Residents in Angola (ACCRA), Félix Arozarena, expressed gratitude for the possibility of this meeting and referred to the situation of the organization, which is in need of getting its work back on track.

He commented that this year, the fifth assembly of the group should be held and it should contribute to its strengthening.

In this regard, several participants suggested actions within the ACCRA to contribute to supporting Cuban residents, particularly in terms of legal advice and health aid.

Others with more experience, such as Nereyda Mayarí Ramos, pointed out the possibility of resuming some initiatives already implemented at other times, linked to knowledge about Angolan legislation and the interaction between ACRAA members.

In order to do this, however, everyone’s commitment is necessary, she noted.

Meanwhile, Reinier Oliva called to take advantage of cultural and sports spaces to unite the community more and find ways for everyone to support the country in some way, amid adverse circumstances like the current ones.

In general, they highlighted the importance of holding these kinds of meetings more frequently and the usefulness of being able to talk directly with the members of the Cuban Embassy in Angola.
