More than 60 thousand pounds of powdered milk have received pediatric hospitals and nursing homes in Cuba to date, thanks to the solidarity contribution in the United States from Puentes de Amor and CodePink, reported activist Carlos Lazo.

Precisely, another 2,750 pounds of milk left for Cuba this Saturday, which will be distributed at the Guanajay pediatric hospital (Artemisa), the Güines pediatric hospital (Mayabeque) and the Solidaridad con Panamá school (Havana), he announced. Professor Lazo, coordinator of Puentes de Amor, from Seattle, in dialogue with Prensa Latina.

Despite hate campaigns and intimidation that try to discredit and prevent Cuban emigrants from the island from contributing to the milk for Cuba efforts, we exceeded the original idea of 40 thousand pounds, he said.

He reiterated that they covered the 15 provinces of the country “and we will continue to do the same, CodePink (pacifist organization) and we, to help those in need, the children, the people who are in hospitals, while the blockade of the United States Government is in place.”

I believe, Lazo added, that this is our duty; of those here who ask to lift the blockade; of any emigre from the island. We have to be in solidarity with the Cuban family, those are difficult bridges to break; and we have to persist in our efforts to eliminate this unilateral siege of so many decades, he concluded.

Codepink and Puentes de amor started this initiative to bring powdered milk to each of the provinces of Cuba approximately two years ago.
