Two commanding 10-0 victories today secured Cuban wrestler Milaimis Marín (76 kg) a spot in the semifinals of the World Wrestling Championships in Zagreb, while her compatriot Yaynelis Sanz (55 kg) won in repechage to move into the bronze-medal bout.

Marín, a bronze medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, was relentless: in the round of 16, she dispatched Belarus’s Anastasiya Zimiankova in just 56 seconds, and in the quarterfinals she swept past Japan’s Nodoka Yamamoto. The world event runs through September 21.

Her next opponent in the semifinals will be Ecuador’s Génesis Reasco, whom she already defeated at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. The match is scheduled for 10:54 a.m. Cuban time.

On the other side of the 76 kg bracket, top seed Aiperi Medet Kyzy of Kyrgyzstan, the world’s No. 1 ranked wrestler, will face Ukraine’s Anastasiya Alpyeyeva.

Meanwhile, Yaynelis Sanz defeated Austria’s Oleksandra Kogu by a score of 6-0 and will fight for bronze against Romania’s Andreea Beatrice Ana, a European silver medalist. That match is slated for 12:18 p.m. Cuban time.
