Cubans to cast their votes for over 11,300 lay judges

Mass and student organizations and representatives of all Cuban social sectors are currently participating in the election process of 11,347 lay judges, local press announced on Wednesday.

According to authorities involved in choosing these people with the capacity to represent the people within the Court System since they have an active role in administering justice under the same conditions as their professional counterparts.

At a press conference held at the headquarters of the People’s Supreme Court (TSP), its Vice-President Farah Saucedo asserted that this is a genuinely popular exercise nurturing the performance of the courts when weighing the seriousness of the crimes committed and their consequent judicial response.

Meanwhile, Leobanys Avila, member of the National Secretariat of the Union Workers (CTC) explained that the process was organized in four stages to end in February 2024 with the holding of the Municipal Assemblies of People’s Power to submit the candidacies for election, as reported by the Cuban News Agency (ACN).
