Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, commended weightlifter Marifélix Sarría for her outstanding performance at the 2025 Pan American Weightlifting Championships in Cali.

In a post on his official X account, the president celebrated the young athlete’s two record-breaking achievements, describing her as a rising champion from the south-central province of Cienfuegos.

“Congratulations, and keep training for higher-level competitions,” Díaz-Canel wrote in his message.

Competing in the +86 kg category, Sarría excelled in the clean & jerk and total lift events. Although she placed second in the snatch—finishing just one kilogram behind the gold medalist—she executed all six of her lifts flawlessly, according to a report by RHC.

Her remarkable performance underscores Cuba’s continued strength in weightlifting, with Sarría emerging as a promising talent for future international competitions.
