Havana, Dec 30 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Friday mourned the death of legendary Brazilian soccer player Edson Arantes do Nascimiento (Pelé), who died of colon cancer at the age of 82.

“Rest in peace, Pelé, a star of the Jogo Bonito; neither the years nor death will be able to erase the impact of your style on Latin American and world soccer,” the president tweeted.

The head of State sent his condolences to relatives, friends and the Brazilian people, and said that Cuba is also mourning Pelé’s death.

Also on Twitter, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez expressed his sorrow and said that this world soccer legend will be always remembered.

The three-time world champion died on Thursday after being diagnosed with colon cancer in September 2021.

He was hospitalized in February to receive treatment and was admitted in the hospital in November again for a reevaluation of the chemotherapy method.

International figures, and local and world media have mourned the death of Pelé, whom many experts consider the greatest soccer player ever.
