Havana, November 17 (RHC)-- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez congratulated on Tuesday the National Commission of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on its 73rd anniversary.

In a tweet, the minister acknowledged the Commission as a defender of the Caribbean country's conquests.

Representatives of Education, Science, Culture, Information, and Communication in our country, they defend our conquests as an indissoluble part of the Revolutionary Diplomacy,' he also wrote.

Cuba has been a member of UNESCO since August 29, 1947, when it deposited the instrument of ratification with the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

On November 17, 1947, the National Commission of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization for Cuba was established, one of the first commissions of cooperation with UNESCO in the Western Hemisphere.

In 1959, due to the country's significant change with the triumph of the Revolution, the conditions for its effective performance in the national life were created.

The Commission's mission is to expand Cuba's influence in all sectors of the Organization's competence.

Likewise, it upholds the principles and interests of Cuban foreign policy, within the Constitution, and the other principles proclaimed in the United Nations Charter and the UNESCO Constitution.
