The Conjunto Folclorico Nacional de Cuba (Cuban National Folkloric Company-CFNC), directed by dancer and choreographer Leivan Garcia, is currently planning to perform a version of the classic ballet "Swan Lake", thought as a "pataki" of folkloric dance.
Garcia told Prensa Latina that it is a challenging idea, but it can be an interesting show to highlight the cultural roots that identify Cuba and its people.
The CFNC director affirmed that they plan to invite the Cuban National Circus and dancers from the National Ballet for this staging, meanwhile, they are working with possible CFCN protagonists of this new dance proposal.
Garcia also announced that the proposal’s name, with words such as swan and lake, has the same meaning in the Lucumi ritual language, in the rule of Ocha from Africa, and they plan to use them to title the play.
