In his first Olympic Games, Cuban boxer Erislandy Álvarez (63.5 kg) will seek today the gold medal in a fight against the three-time world champion Sofiane Oumiha (France), who beat the Cuban in the final of the 2023 World Championships in Tashkent.
Erislandy has walked the distance on the Paris ring based on his great technique and agility, but he will need to convince and show what he is made of to beat his opponent, who was also runner-up in Rio 2016.
If he wins, El Vikingo, as he is known, he will secure Cuba’s second gold medal, since the star wrestler Mijaín López notched up the first one on Tuesday.
