Havana, November 25, 2024.- The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, represented Cuba at the Extraordinary Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations, held today in virtual format.
At the meeting, the Palestinian delegation updated the 19 members of the Group of Friends on the catastrophic situation caused by Israel's genocide in the occupied territories.
The Cuban representative condemned the genocide and the criminal expansionist policy of the successive governments of Israel, during more than seven decades of illegal occupation and the current escalation of violence that, after more than a year of systematic and bloody attacks, has resulted in more than 100,000 injured and more than 43,000 killed, mostly children, women and the elderly. He denounced the conduct of the United States government, which supplies weapons and financial resources to Israel and guarantees its impunity.
He also repudiated Israel's aggression against Lebanon, Syria and Iran, in flagrant violation of the Charter of the United Nations, International Law and International Humanitarian Law, seriously endangering regional and international stability and security.
Likewise, he reiterated Cuba's firm support for the legitimate right of Palestine to become, without further delay, a full member state of the United Nations.
The members of the Group agreed on a Political Declaration that denounces Israel's genocide in the occupied Palestinian territories, with the complicity of the United States, a country that imposes the inaction of the Security Council to achieve an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza.
The Declaration also welcomes the legal procedure initiated by South Africa against Israel before the International Court of Justice, in which some of the members of the Group of Friends, including Cuba, have taken part.
The meeting was a propitious space on the eve of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People to reaffirm solidarity with that brother people and firm support for their inalienable right to self-determination and to build their own Independent and sovereign State within the previous borders. to 1967, with its capital in East Jerusalem.
