The candidate Nayib Bukele, of Nuevas Ideas, obtained the majority of the votes cast in the recently concluded presidential election in El Salvador, a report of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) highlighted.
Of the 3.2 million voters, 3.1 million were valid votes, of which 2.7 million were cast for the candidate of the cyan grouping, the color that identifies Nuevas Ideas.
However, in the elections of February 4, a total of 2.9 million Salvadorans did not go to the polls for a 47,4% absenteeism rate, something that may be indicative of the country’s political polarization, according to official figures published by the TSE.
A total of 6,214,299 Salvadorans were registered to vote and a total of 3,268,466 exercised their right to vote, for a 52,6% which is equivalent to an increase of 0,72 points in relation to previous years.
