Havana, April 19 (RHC)-- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (CC-PCC) and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel attended on Tuesday night the commemorative gala for the 61st anniversary of the victory of Playa Girón, which was held at the National Theater in Havana.

Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People's Power; Roberto Morales Ojeda, secretary of Organization and Cadres Policy of the CC-PCC, and Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, secretary general of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba, all members of the Political Bureau of the Party, also attended.

Other representatives of the government and the Communist Party were also present.

With poems and songs performed by young exponents of various artistic manifestations, tribute was paid to the fallen and the victory, in 66 hours, against those recruited and financed by the United States.

The iconic photo of the leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro jumping from the T-34 tank after defeating the invading mercenaries on the sands of Playa Giron, in western Cuba, summarizes his leadership with the people in the epic battle.

Girón was more than a military victory.  It was the expression of moral values of the vast majority of the Cuban people who defend their sovereignty and socialism.
