From a total of 35 materials presented, 21 were selected to compete for the prizes in 34 categories, numbers that evidence the quality of the recordings and audiovisuals this house presented to the event.

Colibrí, which bets for artistic values beyond the commercial aspect, presented before the Prize’s committee a diversity of materials covering a wide genre specter enriched with elements such as the patrimonial, popular traditions and others that without being attractive enough in relation to the market must be considered as are part of the different original expressions of the national culture.

Nominated to the Cubadisco 2016 were, for example, El gallo fino que canta, a production that compiles all the details of that truly popular festivity: the parranda espirituana (Popular festivity celebrated in Sancti Spiritus). El gallo… competes in the categories of Peasant Son style Tradition, Musical Documentary and Musicological Notes.

Three records of important groups in the rich Cuban choral music movement, Exaudi, Sine nomine and Vocal Luna are competing for the Award in the Choral Music category.

Exaudy with Alrededor del mundo, Sine Nomine with Bonito y sabroso, which also competes in the categories of Video Clip, Graphic Design and Discographic Notes, while Vocal Luna competes with Cantos de Cuba y el mundo that is also nominated in the Musicological Notes category.

Other productions Colibrí presented and that balance other recording houses proposals in the case of genres are the compacts Caribe Nostrum, by Música Eterna Orchestra directed by Maestro Guido López Gavilán; Una mecánica diferente, by Cuarteto Amadeo Roldán and Popularmente Sinfónico IV, from Holguín Symphony Orchestra, all of which are nominated in the categories of Concert Music and Chamber Music.

Directed towards the artistic teaching, Colibrí has been also nominated with Cómo enseñar a tocar la guitarra, Master class., La guitarra en la trova, and Del Oriente de Cuba, all in the Audiovisual Didactic category and the last two ones in Discographic Notes.

Producciones Colibrí is also aspiring to two special awards with the CD-DVD  Umbrales, with the details of the concert maestro Sergio Vitier offered last December at the Teatro Martí when he received the 2014 National Music Award, and Hay quien precisa, by Liuba María Hevia and the Venezuelan Cecilia Todd, a double album in which as soloists or in duet, they revisited songs of their respective works or from other authors.
