Dazzling children and adults alike with productions filled with dreams, fantasy, and hope, Teatro de Las Estaciones celebrates its 31st anniversary today, proudly bringing its excellence in the arts to audiences across this city.

Recognized as one of the most important theater companies in Cuba, the troupe will perform this Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. local time with the show 31 Years Singing with Teatro de Las Estaciones at the centrally located José White concert hall.

An example of excellence in puppet theater and acclaimed for the variety and design of its productions, the company was founded in 1994 by Rubén Darío Salazar, actor and artistic director, and Zenén Calero Medina, set, costume, and puppet designer. Both were honored with the National Theater Award in 2020.

Salazar described the new performance as an afternoon of summer, music, dance, and puppets. Joining the celebration will be pianist, arranger, and composer Elvira Santiago; composer, arranger, and bassist Raúl Valdés; and soprano, arranger, and composer Bárbara Llanes.

Until early August, the company performed at its Matanzas headquarters Everything is Singing in Life, dedicated to Cuban singer-songwriter Teresita Fernández, widely popular on the island for her extensive repertoire of children’s songs.

Stepping into its dreamlike space on Ayuntamiento Street, between Medio and Milanés, is a unique experience. Puppets, costumes, production photographs, and paintings adorn the stage area, which shares space with the Retablos gallery curated by Zenén Calero.

The joy grows when the performance includes emblematic songs such as Tin Tin la lluvia, Vicaria la lechucita, El ratoncito del farol, Grillito acatarrado, Vinagrito, Tía Jutía, Conejito Majadero, Dame la mano y danzaremos, Rani, Lo feo, No puede haber soledad para ti and Amiguitos vamos todos a cantar.

From these songs emerge the characters, the music rises, and an atmosphere of celebration takes shape, brought to life through the performances and voices of Lucelsy Fernández, Iván García, María Laura Germán, Sonia María Cobos, Ale García, and William Quintana.

Under the guidance of Rubén Darío Salazar and Zenén Calero, the renowned children’s theater company has turned this venue, located 100 kilometers from Havana, into a true haven for childhood in the city.

Teatro de Las Estaciones stands out for the quality of its direction, its richly colorful design concepts, and its embrace of Cuban traditions in the art of puppetry.

According to its official website, the group’s interests encompass all aspects of puppet theater and its connections to other art forms. Its work also includes research, teaching, and promotional activities in support of puppetry, such as publications, exhibitions, lectures, courses, and audiovisual materials.

With its productions, Teatro de Las Estaciones has performed at Cuba’s most important theater festivals, as well as at international events and on tours in Spain, France, Mexico, Italy, Venezuela, Denmark, Costa Rica, Uruguay, the Dominican Republic, Martinique, Brazil, Ecuador, China, and the United States.
