The Hollywood star met thousands of fans as he walked the red carpet at Vienna State Opera, the premiere venue.

Dressed in jeans and a black shirt, Cruise was all smiles as he signed autographs, posed for the cameras and shook hands with the many fans who had been waiting hours to see him.

"I'm very proud of what I think we have achieved with this film," Cruise told EFE.

"I feel so privileged to have made five of them, they are very difficult films, with many challenges. I always think of the audience when I make them, what will entertain them, what can I do to push it to the next level," he said.

In Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, agent Hunt and his collegues of the ultra-secret agency, Impossible Mission Force, or IMF, are set against 'The Syndicate', a terrorist organization seeking to change the world order.

To stop them, Hunt jumps on to an Airbus A400m during take-off, clinging on to its side; rides a bike at a speed of 118 mph along a mountain road; and almost drowns trying to steal information from a computer.

The 53-year-old actor insisted on performing the stunts himself, including the aeroplane scene, without the help of special effects, to make the film look as real as possible.

"This is how I work. Always, throughout my career I have driven myself to do this. Computer generated images look fantastic in certain movies, but I want the audience to get engrossed in the movies as much as I can," Cruise told the media.

Cruise used a lateral harness to hang from the airplane as it taxied across the runway and took off, a scene which the actor himself termed as crazy and fun and which took eight takes to complete.

Christopher McQuarrie, the film's director, agreed with the advantages of the real image in comparison to the computerized.

McQuarrie claimed "there is a greater visual impact when you know that what you are looking at is real."

The filmmaker, who has already worked both as a director as well as a scriptwriter on five of Cruise's films, said every time they finish a film together they learn "something new" and they cannot wait to use the knowledge in the next.

British actor Simon Pegg, known for his roles in the new Star Trek movies, and in the upcoming Star Wars movie, repeated his role for the third time in the Mission Impossible series.

Pegg plays the character of Benjamin Dunn, an IMF technician assigned to the field agent and adds a touch of humour to the film.

Rebecca Ferguson, the female lead, portrays the character of Ilsa Faust, a mysterious agent of 'The Syndicate' whose real intentions are not clear.

Actors Alec Baldwin, Jeremy Renner, Ving Rhames and Sean Harris play the bad guys in the film.

The movie will be released in the United States on July 31.
