Seven samba schools will open today the parades of the so-called Special Group of the Carnival of Rio de Janeiro, mostly dressed with strong social criticism, tributes to the indigenous people and the Afro-Brazilian religion.

With figurative floats, thousands of members and an energetic drum drum, schools will have about 70 minutes to bewitch the jurors and the public on Marqués de Sapucaí Avenue, in the Sambadrome (architectural ensemble for parades).

Once again the political and social scene will be present in carnival demonstrations, especially against the questioned government of the ultra-right president Jair Bolsonaro.

The celebration is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. local time, with the tour of the Estacio de Sá, Unidos de Viradouro, Mangueira, Tuiuti, Grande Rio, União da Ilha and Portela schools.

Series A champion in 2019, Estacio de Sá will be looking for his ninth title with the plot titled Piedra.

'The stone was the first book of humanity. It is where the records of prehistory are. In Brazil there are incredible archaeological finds. Let us honor the archaeologists, the people who seek to discover, reveal and preserve our history, 'says the organization of the carnival.

He states that Unidos do Viradouro will tell the story of the women who fought to build the country. The Saiter school of Niterói, in the Metropolitan Region of Rio, intends to show the trajectory of the farmers.

The current champion, Mangueira, will bring this Sunday one of the most subtle parades, singing a popular Jesus Christ, with 'black face, blood of indigenous and woman's body' that unleashed the wrath of ultraconservative Christian groups.

The Sambadrome is expected to receive about 70 thousand spectators every night, at a party that will run until the early hours of the next day.

The state agency Brazil indicates that, in total, including Cariocas, national and foreign vacationers, around seven million people will enjoy the carnival fun for almost a week that will generate an economic benefit to the city of more than one billion dollars.
