Tanzania: Six Cuban Doctors Expected in Zanzibar

Six medical doctors from Cuba are expected to arrive here by the end of this month to support government's initiatives in improving health services, the country's Ambassador to Tanzania, Jorge Luis Lopez Tormo, disclosed.
He revealed this yesterday during a meeting with the Second Vice- President, Seif Ali Iddi. He said the Cuban doctors will also help train local health personnel and the medical students. The envoy said his country remains committed in supporting Zanzibar achieve its goal of having better health services.
"I commend Zanzibar for its peace and stability, attributes which are important to development," said the Cuban Ambassador, adding that Cuban doctors in the isles are enjoying a conducive working environment.
The Second Vice-President thanked Cuba for its support, urging Zanzibaris to appreciate opportunities offered by development partners.
"We are already benefiting from the support provided by Cuba," said Iddi, who recently visited Cuba. During his Cuban tour he held talks with the country's health minister on the possibility of despatching doctors to improve Zanzibar's health service.
