The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has said that APC-led government will explore a partnership with the Cuban government to improve the education and health sector in the country.
Speaking when he received the Cuban Ambassador to Nigeria, Carlos Trejo Sosa in his office, Odigie-Oyegun said that Cuba has the best medical statistics in the world, pointing out that Nigeria has a lot to learn from them.
The APC chairman said the visit affords the party the opportunity to appreciate what Cuba stands for and the principles to which they have sacrificed, adding that "as a people, they have the right to live their live and order their society the way the feel like.
"They have made sacrifices and had consequences and pay high price for that wonderful defense of their own right. They have the fundamental freedom to live the way the choose to live it.
"Apart from that, they have been very great friends of Africa. In the educational and medical areas, they have been wonderful. They have one of the best medical statistics in the world. All we have agreed is that our collaboration is going to increase and we as a party are willing to collaborate with them in what ever area our departments and ministries choose to.
"The APC government has a lot to learn from Cuba especially in the area of medicine. We have one of the highest infant mortality rate, we also have one of the highest maternal mortality rate and the rest of it. This is something that Cuba has conquered and they even have a lower infant mortality rate than the United States of America. I think they have excelled there and we have a lot to learn".
