NEW YORK – Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez was received today by the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres. During the meeting, Rodríguez reiterated Cuba's support for the promotion of and respect for multilateralism and the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter.

Rodríguez, head of the Cuban delegation participating in the High-Level Segment of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, was one of the 28 speakers on this fifth day of debates.

Official Statement on the Meeting

"Great satisfaction to meet again with António Guterres, Secretary-General of the UN," Rodríguez wrote on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

Accompanied by a photo of the two exchanging handshakes, the Foreign Minister added in his message:

"I reiterated Cuba's support for the promotion and respect for multilateralism and the purposes and principles of the Charter. We agreed on the need to strengthen international cooperation to confront global problems."

Intensive Diplomatic Agenda

The also member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and deputy to the Cuban parliament has maintained an intensive agenda since his arrival in New York. His schedule has included meetings with 33 counterparts, among them the foreign ministers of Russia, Venezuela, Nigeria, Mauritania, the Dominican Republic, Spain, and Hungary.

Additionally, he met with the Presidents of Bolivia, Luis Arce, and of Namibia, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.

Rodríguez thanked the African nation's leader for the productive meeting they held and conveyed warm greetings from Army General Raúl Castro and President Miguel Díaz-Canel.

Composition of the Delegation

The Cuban delegation is composed of the Vice Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Fernández de Cossío and Anayansi Rodríguez; the Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ernesto Soberón; the Ambassador of Cuba to the United States, Lianys Torres, among other directors and officials of the Foreign Ministry and the Permanent Mission to the UN.
