Solidarity Movement with Cuba Grows in Colombia

The movement of friendship with Cuba grows today in Colombia with the establishment of another committee of solidarity, which will bring together activists from several municipalities in western Cundinamarca.
We intend to join efforts to support the island in the struggle against the blockade maintained by the United States for more than 50 years, Wilmar Muñoz, president of the new organization of brotherhood, said.
The holding of events and other demonstrations to demand the removal of that group of measures aimed towards the Caribbean country is one of the purposes of the members of friendly groups based in Colombia.
That newly founded group will have its main headquarters in the town of Facatativa, located about 36 kilometers of this capital, in the center region of the country.
Promoters and members of the committee met there to outline the first actions of approximation and support to Cuba.
These are two peoples with deep feelings of affection and ties since the colonial times, said Orlando Jaramillo, member of the solidarity movement who recalled the contribution of several Colombians to the struggles for independence of the Caribbean nation.
We still remember the presence and contribution of the Cuban medical brigade that assisted the victims of the devastating 1999 earthquake in the coffee area, he added.
