“For the Health of All and the Preservation of Biodiversity” is the motto of the meeting to be held here by Cuban biological security experts in the environmental regulatory activity, according to reports published.
The forum’s agenda includes working days on November 3-7 at the hotel Melia Varadero in this beach resort, the main tourist destination in Cuba, which is on the north coast of Matanzas province, 140 kilometers east from Havana.
The delegates will analyze issues regarding prevention and control of the risks at facilities where they manage biological agents in samples, fragments, products or byproducts, said the website Portal de la Ciencia Matancera.
The meeting was organized by the National Center of Biological Security and is sponsored by the International Project UNEP/GEF, with the objective of Completing and Strengthening the National Biosecurity Framework for effective implementation of the Cartagena Protocol, the Matanzas-based newspaper Giron reported.
The meeting will favor exchanging experiences, as well as training and updating experts who work on issues related to biosecurity, the website noted. Biological Security, a discipline that covers risk management, is defined in Cuba as a group of scientific-organizational measures to protect workers, communities and the environment.
