Cuban Health Minister Jose Angel Portal on Wednesday mourned the death of academic and forensic doctor Jorge Gonzalez, whom he described as a paradigm of forensic medicine and science in Cuba.
The minister expressed on social media that we knew, with deep sadness, the death of Doctor Jorge Gonzalez Perez, our beloved Popi. On behalf of the health workers, we send our embrace to his family, friends, and colleagues.
Doctor in legal medicine, Gonzalez was also a founding member of the Cuban Society of Legal Medicine.
In 1995, he was assigned to travel to Bolivia as a representative of the relatives of Che Guevara and other Cuban fighters who died in the 1967 Guerrilla and Internationalist Struggle in that Latin American country, the Cubadebate website reported.
Gonzalez was a member of the Cuban National Assembly from 1998 to 2003. He was re-elected for the 2003-2008 term, during which he served as Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission on Health and Sports, and as Chairman of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Bolivia on both occasions.
