Russian Minister for Emergency Situations Aleksandr Kurenkov will hold high-level meetings on Thursday and tour historic sites in the capital as part of his agenda in Cuba.
Kurenkov will participate in the reinauguration of the National Museum of Cuban Firefighters and will pay tribute to Soviet soldiers who died during their missions on the island, confirmed Prensa Latina. He is also expected to hold talks with Cuban Civil Defense authorities and visit the Fidel Castro Ruz Center in the capital.
As part of the program, Kurenkov was received the day before at the Palace of the Revolution (seat of the Executive) by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel.
“It is a pleasure to receive him in Cuba,” said the president, upon meeting with the Russian head of state, who arrived in Havana on Tuesday in the midst of the recovery work for damages recently caused by two hurricanes and an equal number of earthquakes.
The head of state stressed the importance of this visit and thanked the Russian Federation for its help in the face of natural disasters and its cooperation in confronting the tough U.S. blockade against the island.
For his part, Kurenkov expressed that “this is a visit that contributes to consolidate the ties of friendship between the two countries and is very helpful for us”.
The minister showed satisfaction for being in Cuba and for the opportunity to exchange with the head of state.
“We came with the objective of continuing to strengthen the relations of collaboration with Cuba, which have a friendly and companionship character”, he stressed.
The head of that portfolio in the Russian cabinet toured in this capital the facilities of the Cuban Fire Brigade (CBC) and went to the Special Unit of Rescue and Rescue, where he spoke with members of the leadership of the Ministry of Interior and the CBC.
There he received an update on the strategic projections of the bilateral collaboration and the missions of the center, which include the internationalist contribution of its members in countries affected by disasters.
The head of Russian emergency situations also visited the Cuba-Russia Regional Training Center for Rescue and Firefighters, where these specialists from Cuba and other Latin American countries are trained.
A donation of motorized fire extinguishing techniques and other equipment was handed over at the site, as part of the cooperation agreements, which also establish the participation of Russian specialists in training courses in the Caribbean nation.
