Rome, Nov 3 (Prensa Latina) More than 22,000 seismic events have been recorded in Italy since the earthquake of August 24th, the highest number in the past 36 years, according to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (NIGV).

Almost all the tremors detected in this period have taken place in the central region of the country, where 634 aftershocks were reported as well as an earthquake of 6.5 degrees, which took place on October 30th.

Since October 30th, the NIGV indicates that more than 2,200 aftershocks have taken place, 290 of them between three and four degrees and 20 measured as being between four and five.

In addition, another earthquake of 4.8 degrees shook central Italy this morning, no casualties have been reported so far.

The epicenter of the quake, which occurred at 01:35 am local time, was near the towns of Pieve Torina, Pievebovigliana, Muccia, Visso, Ussita, Camerino and others in the province of Macerata.

The new earthquake, whose hypoenter was detected only 8.4 kilometers deep, was followed by more than 100 aftershocks with magnitudes of between two and three degrees.
