11 Dead in China Shoe Factory Collapse

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, when there were 51 people inside the building.

Nine of the people inside were able to make it out of the structure before it collapsed.

More than 300 emergency personnel worked through the night, and are still working, to rescue the people trapped in the ruins.

On Sunday morning, authorities reported that nine people had died, but the death toll was later raised to 11 after another two bodies were found among the building’s rubble.

Among those people injured, four are in serious condition and five were not employed at the factory.

Images from Chinese television reports show dozens of firefighters working among the ruins of what was the factory’s roof and later moving into the destroyed interior to conduct search and rescue operations.
