Japanese Mayor Emphasizes Quality of Cuban Baseball Players

The mayor of the city of Iwaki, of the Fukushima Prefecture in Japan, Toshio Shimizu, stressed today before the ambassador of Cuba here, Marcos Rodriguez, the quality of baseball players from the Caribbean island.

Rodriguez received mayor Shimizu in the Cuban embassy in this capital, who praised the performance of the Cuba Baseball (U-15) team, which retained the crown as World Champion in the most important event category, held in the city that he governs, from July 29th to August 7th.

The Japanese politician, the highest authority of this city of Japan, referred to the high level shown by the Cuban team and expressed his delight at the positive impact caused by Cubans to the Japanese public.

With special emphasis he mentioned the triumph of the Cubans who won the final game against the host team, that had been defeated only once before facing the Caribbean players.

For his part, Ambassador Rodríguez thanked the affection and hospitality extended to the Cuban team and praised the work of the organizers, who took care of every detail carefully to achieve the success.
