Cuban boxer Erislandy Savon deserves high recognition even though I believe he cannot outshine wrestler Mijaín Lopez and then, be nominated Cuba´s best athlete of the Year.

I know if he is not nominated nobody will remember him. Therefore, I rather talk about him right now so his achievements in this 2014 —no AIBA World Championship year—count.

His biggest tournament was the World Series of Boxing. He was named the best boxer of the event since he won all of his fights and some of them ended prematurely. His performances were impressive.

He also won easily all of his fights in Veracruz 2014.

He also dominated the Cardin in memoriam tournament as well as some of the events carried out in the area.

It is not only the fact he was undefeated all year, but also we have to take into account he won easily by imposing respect among rivals.

The IV World Series did not bring up the best European boxers to fight against him, but he rolled over everyone he faced.

All the experience gained in such tournaments will serve Savon to face next season with better confidence, and he will find a medal he deserves in major tournament.

Although he may be awarded Best Athlete of the Year 2014, the Guantanamo native must receive a great recognition due to his perfect year.
