The 10th Plenary Session of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (CC-PCC) will conclude here after evaluating the organization's role in reversing the harsh effects of the United States blockade against the island.

During Friday’s debates, the first secretary of the CC-PCC, Miguel Díaz-Canel, considered that the revolutionary forces “have to know how to creatively describe and explain the blockade,” which, in his opinion, is not the same as it was 60 years ago.

This policy has been greatly intensified with measures that were never been implemented before and which greatly limit and affect us, he explained.

He emphasized that this is not the same blockade, nor is it the same situation, even as it was in the “special period” (the 1990s): today we have an older population than that of the “special period.”

Therefore, the suffering of the blockade has another nuance.

In this regard, he further said: “we reached this intensification of the blockade with a collapsed electricity system, which was not the electricity system that existed during the so-called special period.”

“When we have this electricity situation, almost everything stops: there is no water supply, there is no material production, we cannot offer services because there are almost no hours of electricity. In recent weeks, we have experienced three or four hours of electricity in some provinces in a single day, others have been out almost entirely for the entire day,” he explained.

For all the problems described, there are strategies such as the demographic dynamics policy, the government program to achieve the stabilization of the National Electricity System, and the “courage, valor, without regrets, with efficiency and creativity” to confront the intensification of the blockade,” he concluded.
