WHO investigation in China indicates animal origin of SARS-CoV-2

Beijing, Feb 9 (Prensa Latina) A mission by the World Health Organization (WHO) reported on Tuesday that its investigation in Wuhan, China, pointed to bat as the possible origin of SARS-CoV-2, a hypothesis for discussion since the coronavirus broke out in that region.

Dr. Peter Ben Embarek, chairman of WHO investigation team, said at a press briefing that the studies point to a reserve of this virus or a similar one in bat populations.

According to Embarek, there is no great evidence of the spread of the pathogen before December 2019 in Wuhan, after considering that its transmission into people is from an intermediate species or some frozen food.

Meanwhile, his Chinese counterpart Liang Wannian confirmed the lack of sufficient evidence regarding the spread of the virus in Wuhan, before it was discovered in December 2019.

The WHO delegation and Chinese experts analyzed the information collected in interviews and tours of different sites in Wuhan, central China, while the origin of the SARS-CoV-2 virus is being investigated.

Since January 29, international experts looked for clues about the coronavirus in Wuhan with the premise of delving into any detail, as they considered that 'data and records are anywhere' to examine and provide them with useful information.
