Havana, Jan 20 (Prensa Latina) The third edition of the Varadero Half Marathon was postponed for 2022 given the existing epidemiological situation in Cuba and the entire international community, according to organizers

This was revealed to Jit, sports newspaper of the Cuban Sports Institute, by the president of the Cuban Athletics Federation, Alberto Juantorena, who said that it is not safe to hold this event even implementing the required health protocols.

However, he highlighted that the challenge will be preparing conditions for a successful race in 2022.

Juantorena, olympic champion in Montreal 1976 in 400 and 800 meters, heads the project that also involves Pineda Sports international tour operator, and which longs to become the ideal scenario for the fans of this type of competition.

Thus, the novelties announced for 2021 will be postponed a year, and the marathon (42.195 km) will be launched and include, for the first time, the participation of skaters planned for this occasion.

In addition, the event will include the 10-km race and the popular 3,000-meter one, which is very appealing to a regular public, which tends to keep or improve their quality of life through races.

Organized in 2018 for the first time, the Varadero Half Marathon was raced by more than 500 competitors, and a year later, it doubled that number; it was won in that distance, 21 km, by Kenyan Timothy Kiagat on both occasions.
