George is, without a doubt, one of the actors who has surprised, on the positive side, with his performance in Sábados de Gloria, the Cuban soap opera currently airing in primetime on Cubavisión. However, his artistic vocation began with visual arts.

How was his journey to acting?

“The journey from visual art to acting was quite beautiful and magical, because I realized it had a lot to do with life experience, stage composition, and the relationship between the work and the creator. They have many things in common.”

When they proposed the role of Eduardo to you, what caught your attention?

“The character of Eduardo captivated me precisely because of what I tried to give him, and I hope it shows in the character. He's a fairly straightforward young man. He has a very beautiful emotional upbringing, he's very sensitive, attentive, thoughtful, intelligent, and above all, because he has a very broad and rich inner world. That really captivated me when I read the character of Eduardo; it was wonderful to play him. What he experiences happens to many people, and I was also inspired by the many people I interviewed about what it was like to embrace his sexuality; that responsibility, because he also has a responsibility to himself and those around him.”

Was it difficult for you as an actor to take on this role?

It was never easy, because stage work—and I mean everything, whether in front of a camera or on stage—is never simple, never easy, given that it's a world, both physical and psychological, emotional, that you have to face and accept…

What was it like working with Ary Fonseca (Paloma) and Alberto Corona (Javier)?

“We had a lot of fun doing this trio. We were just playing on stage, a very serious game, with a lot of respect, but always having fun.”

Many believe that certain scenes weren't necessary in the soap opera; some even feel offended. How do you see it?

“Many will be offended; there will always be controversy, and that's fine. I limit myself to offering opinions on this, but generally speaking, people are free to do what they want, and they do it because they want to and because they can, and that's fine. Whether it's accepted or not, well, that depends on another person's perspective, let's say, where their limitations show in this type of behavior are evident. I don't see this bad as long as it's based on love, on feelings, which is what we try to reflect in the novel, and it’s simply superficial in the flesh or purely sexual. Rather, there's something deeper at work here. Feelings and emotions that everyone has, and you simply want to share them with another person, are at play. I mean, the world of love is quite vast, and people want to experience it, live it, and embrace it in their own way, and it seems, in my opinion, deadly right.”
