From the United States, 161 Irregular Migrants Returned to Cuba by Air

On Thursday, August 28, in the afternoon, 161 irregular migrants (37 women and 124 men) were returned to Cuba by air from the United States through Havana’s José Martí International Airport, in strict compliance with bilateral migration agreements.

Two of those individuals were transferred to investigative authorities as they were identified as alleged perpetrators of criminal acts prior to leaving the country.

With this return operation, there have been eight carried out by air so far this year from U.S. territory, and 33 in total from different countries in the region in 2025, involving 1,001 people, most of them, 863, from the United States.

Cuba has reaffirmed its commitment to "safe, orderly and regular migration," while reiterating the dangers and life-threatening conditions posed by illegal departures from the country.
