Song of September was called the Trovada, which this Sunday night was heard at the old Tomás Terry Coliseum, among the audience the presence of Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, and President of the Republic.

Also present were Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (CCPCC for its acronym in Spanish), and Maridé Fernández López, member of the CCPCC, and first secretary in the province.

Both the president himself and Cienfuegos citizens enjoyed this cultural gala, a prelude to the tribute that this Monday morning -and on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the popular uprising of civilians and sailors-, will be paid to the heroes born of the people from that historic day.

The best songs of La Nueva Trova like La Era, Pequeña serenata diurna, Te perdono, even Yolanda were performed by representatives of the genre, on the 50th anniversary of this musical movement that has favorably marked several generations.

Eduardo Sosa, Jorge Gómez, Marta Campos, Augusto Blanca, Corina Mestre, Nelson Valdés, and the Así Son Duo, among others, starred in the Trovada, directed by Pedro and Roberto Novo, members of the homonymous duo.

Pedro Novo himself declared to the press that the trova roots were taken into account in the selection of songs in recognition of the old creators.

Among these exponents, a special moment was set for the Cienfuegos singer-songwriter Lázaro García, recently deceased, who left a legacy of emblematic songs, and hard work in the training of new talents.

Cienfuegos citizens who grew up with the songs of Lázaro and La Nueva Trova movement, sang along to the beat of the artists, changing the evening into a memorable space of love and history.
