Seminar on Parliamentary Diplomacy concludes in Cuba

The First International Seminar on Parliamentary Diplomacy will conclude today in this capital, after opening the day before with the participation of legislators, leaders, scholars and researchers from 18 countries.
According to the president of the Higher Institute of International Relations (ISRI), Rogelio Sierra, the event stands as a crucial space to reflect on the fundamental role that parliamentarians play in building a better world.
Sierra highlighted the importance of Parliaments to guarantee more just, peaceful, prosperous and inclusive societies, when he officially inaugurated the Seminar at the National Capitol, headquarters of the National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament).
This Wednesday, at the meeting, attendees exchanged opinions and debated practices about the main challenges of global development and the multilateral system.
For his part, Deputy Rolando González, president of the Assembly's International Relations Commission, made a speech that specified the academic nature of the event and served as an introduction to the debates.
Parliamentary Diplomacy, its actions in favor of the solution of the Palestine-Israel conflict, by ISRI student Kamila Suárez, was one of the papers discussed.
Likewise, Parliamentary Diplomacy in Latin America. briefs about their work in confronting Covid-19, presented by Jean Carlos Osorio, also a student at the Institute.
The president of the National Council of Namibia, Lucas Sinimbo Muha, also made a brief speech on the day, who repudiated the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States government against Cuba.
For Sinimbo Muha, the US siege threatens the peace and economic stability of Cuba and, therefore, inevitably becomes a threat to global peace and security.
Convened by the ISRI and the International Relations Commission of the Cuban Parliament, those attending the Weekly will also debate the need to strengthen and comply with international law to protect human rights, among other topics.
