The threat of terrorist acts persists in the territory of the Russian Federation, the head of the Federal Security Service (FSB), Alexandr Bortnikov, stated on Tuesday.
The FSB chief told a press conference after a meeting of the expanded board of the Prosecutor General’s Office that this is proved by what is happening in the regions of Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, as well as in other parts of the country.
Bortnikov recalled that the Russian forces prevented several attacks “organized by the military intelligence services and the Security Service of Ukraine.”
“On our part we do, of course, everything possible, but our possibilities are not unlimited,” admitted Bortnikov, in reference to the recent terrorist attack on the Crocus City Hall.
The attack was aimed at destabilizing the situation in Russia, sowing panic in society, the senior official emphasized.
In the opinion of Bortnikov, the Ukrainian intelligence services are directly involved in the terrorist attack on the concert hall and, in this context, the FSB chief stressed the need to recognize the Security Service of Ukraine as a terrorist organization.
At the same time, he stated that the mastermind of the attack has not been identified yet; however, he pointed out that the terrorists tried to flee to Ukraine and that they were waiting for them there to “receive them as heroes.”
Bortnikov also accused Western special services of facilitating the preparation of the recent bloody attack by Islamic radicals “to increase tensions.”
