Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Ricardo Cabrisas and Deputy Chairman of the Russian Government Yuri Borisov attend on Friday a meeting of co-chairs of the Intergovernment Commission for Economic-Commercial and Scientific-Technical Collaboration between both countries.

In September 2019, the 17th plenary session of the aforementioned intergovernmental commission met in Moscow, where several documents were signed, among them the modernization of the Cuban energy system.

At that time, Cabrisas spoke out for strengthening collaboration with Russia in the health sphere and offered the island's modest experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology area.

On Thursday, the top Cuban official participated in the virtual consultations with the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) to analyze the reasons for Cuba's request as an Observer state of that Union.

In front of the representatives of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia, the Cuban leader ratified the political will to open up greater opportunities for trade, investment and cooperation and support the complementarity of these economies, diplomatic sources said.

Cabrisas explained the possibilities for Cuba and the EAEU to make progress on issues of common interest, taking into account the potentialities existing between our countries and the interest of strengthening the bilateral relations with the member states.

The final approval of Cuba's request is scheduled to be discussed at a summit of the member states in November 2020.

The deputy prime minister also met with Mikhail Myasnikovich, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, and Sergey Glaziev, Minister for Integration and Macroeconomics of the Eurasian Economic Commission.

The Cuban delegation also plans to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday, September 28.
