The leader of the Cuban Revolution, Raúl Castro, and the president of the National Defense Council, Miguel Díaz-Canel, inaugurated today the Strategic Exercise Bastion 2024, which will extend until next Friday.
Díaz-Canel explained that this activity is carried out to “continue raising the level of preparation and cohesion of the management and command bodies, the troops and the territorial defensive system at all levels,” according to Granma newspaper.
“And thus, together with the people, we will face any variant of aggression against our Homeland,” said Díaz-Canel.
The president highlighted the importance of this exercise to continue strengthening the country’s military invulnerability.
Planned for last November, the exercise was postponed to 2025 due to the damage caused by earthquakes and hurricanes Oscar and Rafael.
During the Bastion and the National Defense Day (January 25), tactical maneuvers and exercises of different types are carried out, with the participation of units of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, the Ministry of the Interior and other components of the territorial defense system.
These exercises represent the highest expression of military preparation at a strategic level, and are an essential component of the Defense Personnel Preparation System.
