A strong police operation was deployed today around the Argentine Congress, which remains fenced off in view of the announcement of a demonstration in defense of free, quality public universities.

This day, the Chamber of Deputies must determine whether to support or reject a veto by President Javier Milei to an educational financing law, a measure that is criticized by students, professors, non-teaching workers and members of social, union and human rights organizations.

As part of the protest actions, groups of students took over several faculties throughout the country, among them those of Psychology and Philosophy and Letters of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA).

Demonstrations of this type are also taking place in Córdoba, Jujuy, Santa Fe and other provinces, where there were also vigils, symbolic embraces, street classes and assemblies.

The president of the Center of Students of Philosophy at the UBA, Isabel González, told the media that the protests are aimed at denouncing the damages caused by the Government’s policies.

“To the deputies, we are watching them. If they betray the popular vote, they have to be ready for us students to go out to deepen this fight because if they are going to continue insisting on something that has no legitimacy, we will be up to the task of defending the university,” she said.
