The RNASP issued a statement highlighting the friendship between both peoples and governments and added that it represents a momentous event in the history of Latin American revolutions.

The statement recalls the Nicaraguan pilot Carlos Ulloa, who fell in defense of the Cuban revolution in Playa Girón (Bay of Pigs) on April 17th, 1961, when Cuba was attacked by mercenaries at the service of the United States government.

It also made reference to how Nicaragua had the internationalist support and solidarity of the people and government of Cuba to overthrow the dictatorship of Somoza, resulting in the victory of the Sandinista National Liberation Front.

“Since then, both revolutions have faced together and hand in hand the attacks of an empire that never accepted the existence of two worthy and sovereign peoples (…)”, the statement says.

Along these lines, the statement also supports the actions of solidarity with Cuba promoted by the government of President Daniel Ortega and deputy president Rosario Murillo.

“We commemorate with patriotic pride the 61st anniversary of the victory at (Playa) Girón, in which the Cuban people, led by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, defeated the mercenary invasion,” the statement highlights.
