Tokyo, Nov 1 (Prensa Latina) A group of Unesco experts recommended the inscription of the performing arts ensemble called Furyu Odori as Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan announced.
According to the agency, the official decision will be made during a meeting of the intergovernmental committee of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, which will take place in Morocco starting next November 28.
The Furyu Odori comprises 41 folklore events in 24 Japanese prefectures, including the Bon Odori and Kanomizu no Kake Odori traditional dance festivals, which have been passed down through generations for centuries.
These centuries-old dances are part of the government-designated catalog of intangible properties of Japanese folk culture.
In 2009, Unesco declared the Japanese Chakkirako dance, originally from Kanagawa Prefecture, to the list of world heritage sites.
Other 21 traditional manifestations of the Asian country, such as food, washi paper, traditional wooden structure repair techniques and Kabuki theater, also hold the important international recognition.
