The Cuban Ministry of Public Health (Minsap) reported today the death of the Italian patient diagnosed with Covid-19 who was in a critical-serious condition due to the deterioration of his vital parameters.
Despite the efforts of the team of Cuban doctors in the intensive care room of the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine, where he remained hospitalized, the patient died at dawn on March 18.
After several days of hospitalization, the 61-year-old patient with a history of having bronchial asthma presented clinical manifestations of complications of the disease.
The health authorities deeply regret what happened and convey their deepest condolences to family and friends.
A team of specialists in intensive care was directly linked to the case, continually informing experts from the Cuban ministry, and together they assessed the behavior to be adopted at all times during treatment.
The deceased and two of his traveling companions were diagnosed on March 11 when the IPK Reference Laboratory reported positive results for the new SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus, which causes Covid-19 disease. The other two admitted Italian patients maintained a stable clinical course.
The tourists, from the Italian region of Lombardy, were identified with respiratory symptoms while staying at a hostel in the city of Trinidad, Sancti Spíritus province, and immediately moved to and entered the IPK.
