A fundraising campaign to support the installation of solar energy systems in Cuban primary schools is now underway in Vietnam's southern metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City.

The initiative, organized by the city's Union of Friendship Organizations and Department of Culture and Sports in collaboration with several media outlets, was launched during a ceremony commemorating the 72nd anniversary of the attack on the Moncada Barracks.

Nguyen Loc Ha, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, described the campaign as a vivid demonstration of the enduring friendship between Vietnam and Cuba. The fundraising effort will run until November 30, coinciding with the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Loc Ha acknowledged Cuba's current challenges, particularly in the energy sector, and urged participation in the project, emphasizing mutual affection, solidarity, and unwavering loyalty. He stressed that the initiative would not only improve learning conditions for students but also showcase Vietnam's international solidarity with Cuba during difficult times.

Furthermore, he noted, the effort will strengthen the special relationship between Vietnam and Cuba, a bond "forged through the blood and sacrifices of generations and proven throughout history."

Cuban Consul General Ariadne Feo Labrada expressed gratitude for the support of Ho Chi Minh City's Communist Party Committee, government, and people. She stated that the event celebrated fundamental human values such as friendship, solidarity, and internationalism.

"Vietnam and Cuba are brotherly nations that have built a special, sincere, and mutually supportive relationship in all areas," the diplomat said, highlighting people-to-people solidarity as a key factor in fostering natural affection between the two countries.

During the ceremony, broadcast live on Ho Chi Minh City Television, the campaign's organizing committee received initial donations from a dozen organizations, businesses, and individuals, totaling over 1.6 billion dong (approximately $62,000).
