Prominent Cuban historian Fabio Enrique Fernández Batista will be the featured guest on the cultural program Libro a la Carta on July 24 at 3 p.m. at the Fayad Jamís Bookstore in Old Havana. The event, hosted by journalist and critic Fernando Rodríguez Sosa, marks the 25th anniversary of the monthly literary series.

A graduate of the University of Havana with degrees in History, Interdisciplinary Studies of Latin America, the Caribbean and Cuba, and a PhD in Historical Sciences, Fernández Batista currently chairs the Cuban History Department at the university's Faculty of Philosophy and History. His research focuses on the Cuban Revolution, university student movements, and contemporary Cuban historiography, according to the Cuban Book Institute.

The award-winning scholar has authored several publications including *Paths to Prosperity: The Economic Ideology of Cuban Creole Oligarchies (1550-1790)* and *Chronicle of a Collapse: The Fall of Real Socialism in Cuban Print Media (1985-1992)*. His collaborative works include studies on Fidel Castro's relationship with university traditions and Cuba's publishing industry.

Fernández Batista's distinguished career has earned multiple national honors, including the Enrique Gay Calbó National Award for Historiographic Criticism (2013), the Gloria García Special Prize (2016), and the Ramiro Guerra Sánchez Historical Criticism Award (2019, 2022). In 2023, he received the Cuban Academy of Sciences Award.

Born in Havana in 1988, the historian serves on advisory boards for the journal Temas and the Institute of Cuban History, and previously held the position of First Vice President of the Union of Cuban Historians.

Libro a la Carta, founded by Rodríguez Sosa in 1999, provides a platform for dialogue with Cuban writers whose works enrich the nation's contemporary literature. The program continues its tradition of fostering literary discussion at the historic Fayad Jamís venue.
