Herencias is the title of the photography exhibition inaugurated today at the Drake Hall of the Cuban Association of Artisans and Artists (ACAA) in Matanzas, a tribute to the region’s cultural wealth through the lens of 20 local photographers.

Photographer and curator of Herencias, Frank Alexis Ortega, explained that the exhibition preserves its essence as a tribute to the cultural diversity of Matanzas reflected in the photographic work. “It is a homage we want to dedicate to the city, to all that culture accumulated over many years, especially to those who strive to preserve it today,” he stated.

The exhibition features photographers from various generations, ranging from young talents such as 12-year-old Darío Betancourt to acclaimed figures like Ramón Pacheco Salazar, recipient of the Provincial Award for Visual Arts and a prominent reference in the province’s photography scene.

Ortega emphasized the quality and emotional depth of the selected images, which offer a broad panorama of local cultural heritage, including rural, African, and Spanish traditions as well as theatrical expressions. “It was difficult to select a single photograph to represent each artist because all of them displayed remarkable quality and tremendous emotional strength,” he remarked, noting that the call for participation was inclusive and open to all those with significant works.

He also mentioned the possibility of future related events to highlight photography focused on street theater.

The exhibition Herencias at the Drake Hall will remain open to the public until October 8. It stands as a platform to celebrate the cultural richness of Matanzas through the sensitive and professional vision of its photographers, who remain committed to both art and local memory.
