UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday called on Libyan parties to work together to hold inclusive and credible elections as soon as possible.
According to a report to the UN Security Council, Guterres stressed the need for the complete withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign troops from Libya.
According to AFP, the Secretary General said that 2.8 million Libyans who registered to vote should be commended and their wishes be respected, and it is essential that everyone focus on holding free, fair, inclusive and credible presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.
Guterres stressed the need for the Libyan authorities to work to solve the fundamental problems that led to the postponement of the elections, and to create the political and security conditions necessary to complete them without further delay. He called for the ceasefire agreement to continue, with the complete withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign forces from Libya.
