The Cuban duo of Norlan Díaz and Jorge Luis Alayo will face today the Dutch duo of Van De Velde-Immers, in the third day of the Itapema, Brazil phase of the Beach Volleyball World Protour Challenge 2023 that will conclude this Sunday.

 

Díaz and Alayo reach that stage after the two wins on Thursday in the preliminaries, and two wins and a setback on Friday, and now they will look for the victory against De Velde and Immers that will guarantee them to continue on their way to the desired podium.

 

This Friday they opened in pool A of the main competition with a setback against the United States duo of Partain-Benesh, with partial scores of 14-21 and 18-21, but in the afternoon they defeated 2-0 (22-20 and 21-11 ) to Argentina's Azaad-Bueno.

 

Already in the round of 16 and at night came the other important success against the American pairing of Crabb-Sander, with a 2-0 score (21-13 and 21-19).

The Itapema tournament gives points for the world ranking ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and began with 67 duos from 28 countries, and the Brazilian hosts stood out, with 19.

 

After the Itapema phase, the Cuban couple will continue in Brazil to participate in the third, scheduled to take place in Saquarema from April 13-16, with the aim of continuing their preparation for the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador and the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile, in both cases in 2023.

 

Previously, the Cuban duo competed in the phase of La Paz, Mexico, and finished in positions 9 to 16 with a balance of three victories and two losses.
