Copenhagen, Sep 19 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Yarisleidis Cirilo and Katherin Nuevo continued to make history by winning silver medal here today in the 200-meter K-2 race at the World Canoe Sprint Championships.

In the Bagsvaerd Lake, the Cuban paddlers covered the distance in 43.89 seconds and barely gave up by one hundredth to winners from Spain, Patricia Coco and Maria Corbera, who clocked 43.88.

This is for 19-year-old Cirilo and Nuevo (18) their second medal of the competition, since on Saturday they had won bronze in the K-2 500, only surpassed by the Ukrainian and Belarusian rivals.

Cirilo had finished eighth in the K-1 200 with a time of 48.85 seconds, in an event won by Canada's Katie Vincent with a time of 46 seconds and 52 hundredths.

Meanwhile, in the men's category, Cuban José Ramón Pelier also finished last in the 500-meter K-1 race with a time of one minute, 50 seconds and 57 hundredths of a second.

Germany's Conrad Scheibner was crowned champion in this modality by timing 1:46.55 minutes, ahead of Czech Martin Fuksa (1:47.58) and Moldovan Oleg Tarnovschi (1:48.50).

After these results, Cuba is in 16th place with one silver medal and two bronze medals, for a total of three gold medals, 10 silver medals and an equal number of bronze medals in the history of these competitions.
