Leyanis Perez and Liadagmis Povea, two of the top exponents of the triple jump at world level, advanced today to the final of the discipline in the event corresponding to the 33rd Summer Olympic Games.

Perez, recognized as one of the favorites for the gold medal, ruled the general classification with a jump of 14.68 meters (m), obtained in her third and last attempt, while Liadagmis jumped 14.39 m in her first attempt, valid to surpass the minimum mark, set at 14.35 m.

Other strong results in the event were achieved by Shanieka Ricketts of Jamaica (14.47 m), Jasmine Moore of the United States (14.43 m) and Ana Peleteiro-Campaore of Spain (14.36 m), in an event that also saw advances for the well-placed Thea Lafond (14.35 m) and Marina Bekh-Romanchuk (14.30 m).

This Saturday will be contested the final of the event, key in the medal aspirations for Cuba, dominated in recent years by the stellar Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas, record holder with 15.74 m, who did not attend the summer event due to injury.

For Cuba, also competing this afternoon are discus throwers Silinda Morales and Melany del Pilar Matheus, as well as middle-distance runners Rose Mary Almanza and Dayli Cooper, in search of a place in the finals.
